Markeaton Park
Less than a 30 minute drive from Boars Head Hotel, lovers of the great outdoors can enjoy a great afternoon out at Markeaton Park. Featuring a selection of manicured 18th and 19th century gardens, this fantastic communal space features a number of things to do for all the family. From a large play area for little ones to enjoy on sunny days to swinging on the high ropes for the daredevils among us, Markeaton Park is particularly great for children. Especially during the summer months, thanks to the picnic area and free paddling pool (open from May to September).
There’s so much to do throughout the year at Markeaton Park too. No matter the season, visitors to Boars Head Hotel can enjoy funfairs, outdoor cinema experiences, guided walks, family activities, arts and crafts, donkey rides, crazy golf and more!
Markeaton Park is also home to The Craft Village and The Orangery cafe. The Craft Village, which opened in 1897 lies at the center of Markeaton Park. Here visitors can enjoy a range of activities and shops including Paint a Pot, Lilac Joinery, Matthew Morris Furniture shop, Jumping Clay and Art in the Park.
The recently refurbished Orangery cafe overlooks Markeaton Park’s formal gardens and terrace garden. Hungry and thirsty visitors can enjoy a variety of hot and cold drinks alongside a menu of delicious food. It’s the ideal place to recharge and fill hungry bellies after a vigorous walk around the gardens! Other eateries at Markeaton Park include the Ice Cream Kiosk and the Pizza Kiosk, both of which are located at the Mundy Play Centre.
