Derbyshire Christmas 2026: Markets, Magic & Cosy Nights

Christmas shopping feels much more enjoyable when it comes with festive food, pretty surroundings and a night away. Particularly when you can convince yourself that the extra purchase was “a little treat” rather than another present you haven’t quite found a recipient for!

If you’re planning a Derbyshire Christmas break in 2026, there are plenty of reasons to pack an overnight bag. From Christmas markets to a magical family day out in Sudbury, you can fill your days with festive adventures before settling into a comfortable bedroom at The Boars Head Hotel.

Here are some Christmas events worth adding to your diary.

Get a Head Start at the Derbyshire Christmas Fair

Who says you have to wait until December?

The Derbyshire Christmas Fair at Osmaston Park takes place on 28th and 29th October 2026, giving you an early opportunity to start your shopping near Ashbourne.

With gifts, fashion accessories, Christmas decorations, jewellery, festive food and ceramics, it’s a lovely excuse to browse for something a little different.

Make an autumn break of it with a visit to the fair, time exploring the area and an overnight stay with us. Christmas shopping started before November? You’ll be feeling very organised.

Browse the Christmas Market at Shottle Hall

Taking place from 13th to 15th November 2026, the Fabulous Places Christmas Market at Shottle Hall offers another reason to plan a festive getaway in Derbyshire.

Set within the grounds of Shottle Hall, the event brings together small businesses for seasonal shopping. It’s an opportunity to find thoughtful presents while supporting independent makers and sellers.

Combine a market visit with a relaxing stay, and give yourself time to enjoy the experience rather than rushing through your shopping list.

Make a Day of Chatsworth Christmas Market

For a bigger festive day out, Chatsworth Christmas Market runs from 7th November to 13th December 2026.

With more than 100 stalls, seasonal food and drink, and live music, there’s plenty to keep you browsing. Pick up decorations, hunt for presents and leave a little room for something delicious along the way.

Entry to the market is free, but parking charges apply and car parking must be booked in advance.

Chatsworth is a longer countryside excursion from The Boars Head, so give it a full day in your plans. Return afterwards for a comfortable night’s rest, with your Christmas shopping safely tucked away.

Find Christmas Magic Close By in Sudbury

Travelling with children? The Children’s Country House at Sudbury is celebrating Christmas with The Snow Queen, running on selected dates between 21st November 2026 and 3rd January 2027.

The house will bring the fairy tale to life through decorated rooms and imaginative scenes, inviting families to follow Gerda’s adventure through a magical winter world.

It’s a lovely option close to The Boars Head for families making a festive break of it. The event is included with normal admission, and you should check the calendar for opening dates before visiting.
