Over a Century of Mother’s Day Celebrations
This year marks the 101st anniversary of Mothering Sunday is being celebrated, having been created by American Ann Jarvis who held a memorial for her own mother at a Methodist Church in West Virginia. Her campaign to create an awareness day started three years prior in 1905, the same year her mother died.
Mother’s Day has since become a widely recognised event, which in Jarvis own words is for,
“the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world.”
