The Tissington Trail
The Tissington Trail is a picturesque cycle trail spanning 13 miles of the Ashbourne countryside.
Throughout the length of the trail there are many places of natural beauty where you can take a break, and enjoy the views. The route includes attractions such as St Oswalds Church, Tissington Hall, the old Ashbourne-Buxton rail track, plus several stunning lakes and beautiful valleys.
This trail is primarily flatter than many others in the area, however, it does have a section of incline/decline around the area of Parsley hall, reaching a summit of 305m above sea level. Many consider this trail to be friendly for those new to cycling, or for those who simply want to take it easy. Perhaps you want to challenge yourself? Time yourself on your first visit, then again on subsequent visits to see how much you can improve your speed.
If The Tissington Trail sounds like something you’d love to have a go of, but haven’t brought your cycle, fear not, there are a number of local cycle hire places including Ashbourne Cycle Hire and Parsley Cycle Hire. Alternatively, this route is also walking friendly, so as long as you have comfortable shoes, and plenty of time on your hands, why not go for a nice relaxing walk and see how far you’re willing to walk.
We know that the trail can be tiring, no matter your fitness level, so why not come back to The Boars Head Hotel, take a quick shower in your room, and come and join us for dinner? No matter what your taste, our great selection of menus will have something that will hit the spot just right.
