Festivals in Derby To Look Out For in 2020

The year might not be over but we’re always looking ahead here at The Boars Head. And we’ve discovered a whole range of exciting upcoming festivals in Derby over next year that we’re sure you’ll love too! 

Festivals in Derby 2020

Derby Book Festival 

Friday 29th May – Saturday 6th June 2020

Derby Book Festival will make a comeback again in 2020 with plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with your favourite authors. Suitable for literature lovers of all ages, this 9-day event will host writers, poets, historians, politicians, illustrators, storytellers and musicians. It’ll be an eclectic mix if previous years are anything to go by. Head over to the Derby Book Festival website to stay up-to-date with the latest news and line up as it’s announced. 

Derby Fake Festival 

Sunday 20th June 2020 

Fake Fest in Derby returns for the 3rd year running in Derby next year. And visitors won’t be disappointed. Championing the very best in tribute acts, Derby Fake Fest promises to bring 6 ‘fake bands’ to the city including Antarctic Monkeys, Fu Fighters, Really Hot Chili Peppers, Green Date and The Police Force. 

The 2020 festival will also bring with it the ‘Entertainment Zone’ packed full with stands and stalls. And, like any festival worth its salt, there’ll be top-notch food up for grabs to keep you going through the day. 

Derbyshire Sausage & Cider Festival 2020 

Thursday 25th June  – Sunday 28th June 2020

Sausages? Good! Cider? Great! Music? Fantastic! 

Summer 2020 is shaping up to be an exciting time here in Derby. And one festival that’s got our hearts racing is The Derbyshire Sausage and Cider Festival 2020. Held over a decadent 4 day weekend, this family festival returns to Catton Hall in Derbyshire on Thursday 25th June. Suitable for festival-goers of all ages, there’s entertainment for the kids, oodles of food stalls, bars (selling local cider and other thirst-quenching beverages!) and a lineup of tribute acts delivering the very best music in the region.

Confirmed headliners at present include Symphonic Ibiza Orchestra, UB40 Tribute Johnny 2 Bad, The Mumford & Sons Experience, LiveWire AC/DC show, Backstreet’s Back. Derbyshire Woodland Festival

Saturday 19th September – Sunday 20th September 2020

Set in the stunning grounds of Elvaston Castle Country Park, the Derbyshire Woodland Festival is a day out for the whole family. Children and adults alike can get stuck into a whole host of activities and crafts. And there’ll be a wealth of stallholders on hand to help you find the very best and most unique furniture available in the region. 

Scarefest 2020 @ Alton Towers 

Thursday 8th October – Sunday 11th October 2020

As one of the best hotels near Alton Towers, we couldn’t neglect to mention Scarefest could we? While not technically a festival, this iconic event over 4 days offers fun and thrills for the whole family. From scare mazes to hair raising rides under cover of darkness, it’s good fun and frighteningly fun!

The Gin & Rum Festival 2020 

Friday 13th November – Saturday 14th November 2020

Who says festivals are just for the summer? In November 2020, the UK’s largest Gin & Rum Festival tour will pitch up at Derby Cathedral and it promises to be the ‘party of the year’.
