Christmas has only just been and gone, but already we’ve got our eye on the February half term and we bet you have too! To help you keep the kids entertained during their week-long break, we’ve put together a list of events happening near our hotels in Derbyshire.
When is February Half-Term in 2020?
In February 2020, the schools break up on Friday 14th February and most kids will go back to school on Monday 24th.
What’s on in Derbyshire over February Half-Term?
Keeping the kids entertained for a whole week can be challenging. Luckily, there are a whole host of events happening throughout the week in Derby and the surrounding areas near our hotels in Derbyshire that are bound to entertain even the most energetic of children. Here’s our round-up.
The Pharaoh’s Treasure Trail at Derby Museum & Art Gallery 15th – 23rd February
Throughout February Half-Term families can embark on an epic Egyptian adventure at Derby Museum & Art Gallery. Every day between 10am and 4pm, kids aged 5-15 with their grown-ups can explore the museum and art gallery, solving clues to find the Pharaohs hidden treasure and meeting the leaders of Ancient Egypt.
Combining history with a fun treasure trail, kids will enjoy learning about the past and solving the puzzle. What’s more, this activity is totally free for Derby Museums Family Friends or only £1 each for a trail sheet, making it a cheap and easy activity the whole family can enjoy!
Half-Term in the Farmyard and Playground at Chatsworth House 15th February – 23rd February
For kids with bags of energy, the farmyard and playground is the perfect place. That’s why, for another year, Chatsworth House will be open for the February school break to allow little ones to let off some steam and get some fresh air.
Mini Musketeers at Bolsover Castle Saturday 15th February – Sunday 23rd February
There’s so much to see and do at Bolsover Castle, from the fairy-tale Stuart Mansion to the lavish rooms of the Little Castle. And this February half-term kids can find out what life was like for 17th Century musketeers. Little ones can try their hand at musket drills and gunpowder making, not to mention delighting in the views from the wall walk. A winner for all the family, we think!
Morgan & West: Unbelievable Science at Derby Theatre 17th February
Morgan & West are magicians, time travellers, and scientists. And they’re bringing their brilliantly bonkers science extravaganza to Derby! Expect fun, thrills, laughter and maybe a few (minor) explosions over the course of a show that’s bound to blow your mind and make your sides ache!
Crafty Tuesdays: Beautiful Birds at Pickford’s House 18th February
Kids love arts and crafts, and Beautiful Birds at Pickford’s House gives little ones the opportunity to get creative and enjoy nature. What’s more, Pickford’s House offers a unique experience to visitors, recreating domestic life from the 18th to the 20th Century in the family home of Georgian architect Joseph Pickford.
The Little Prince at Déda 22nd February – 23rd February
As a timeless classic, The Little Prince has captivated children for decades. This production, presented by Luca Silvestrini’s Protein at Déda in Derby is retold by a pilot who is stranded in the desert. Expect a mixture of dance, humour and spoken word and we follow The Little Prince on his journey across planet Earth where he discovers the beauty of friendship and the complexity of love.
